E36 is a better track car I believe, more simple. The E46 is a bit nicer of an interior though, if you need to daily it go E46 for sure. That said if you do the following, your car will be fire: 3.91 welded diff. E46 LCAs. Coilovers (I have BCs but anything w/ adjustability is better than OEM) SLR Mini Angle Kit.

I fucking love my e46. You HAVE to do rear subframe reinforcement plates tho. Its not difficult by any means, but it takes a good amount of time to do if you've never touched cars before. Do reinforced subframe, adjustable rear camber arms, weld the diff and get coiloverss and an SLR steering angle kit and you will be doing realllllll gooood. I'm new to the world of project cars and mainly want one to practice maintenance on and get used to working on cars- and I keep seeing the BMW E36 is shown as a good budget project car, however, I have found a 2001 E46 328ci for 拢1000 - is this a good buy?

Unfortunately my 2001 330Ci with 6 speed manual tranny was totaled a while back. After I bought this 2004 E46 automatic, I realized that this car has a 5 speed automatic tranny from GM in it. .
